Nuclear Specialty

Steps to Certification

  1. Work experience and education requirements

    160 hours of work on coatings focused projects for a nuclear power plant

  2. Course requirements and suggestions

    Successful completion of the following course: NACE Nuclear Power Plant Training for Coatings Inspectors

    Successful completion of the Ethics for the Corrosion Professional course or an equivalent training

  3. Certification and application requirements

    CIP Nuclear Theory Exam (delivered via Examity)

  4. Core exam requirements

    CIP Nuclear Theory Exam

Apply for Certification

Recertification

Recertification will coincide with NACE CIP recertification every 3 years. In order to maintain the Nuclear Facilities Certification Supplement to your CIP certification, you will be required to document 120 hours of inspection work with nuclear power plants since the last CIP certification/recertification event.

Bridge Specialty

    Successful completion of the following course: NACE Marine Coating Technology

  2. Certification and application requirements

    Active CIP Level 1, CIP Level 2 or CIP Level 3 certification

    NACE Marine Coating Technology Exam (delivered via Examity)

Certification exams

NACE Institute certification requirements include an exam delivered via computer-based testing (CBT) for the Bridge Specialty certification. Certification exams for the Nuclear and Marine Specialty are delivered as part of the respective course.

Renewal requirements

Bridge and Marine Specialties are renewed with the primary certification renewal. The Nuclear Specialty is also renewed with the primary but requires the additional document located in My Certification Portal. Certification holders are required to pay a non-refundable processing fee for renewal.
