Certification: Internal Corrosion Specialist

A certified Internal Corrosion Specialist should have a thorough understanding of electrochemical and corrosion principles, field testing, laboratory analysis, monitoring techniques, mitigation strategies and possess sufficient skills and experience to design, evaluate and manage a comprehensive internal corrosion control program. They should be capable of designing, evaluating and managing maintenance and monitoring plans specific to the environment in which they are working e.g pipeline, cooling water systems, potable water systems, water treatment plants, processing plants and steam boilers and determine standard operating procedures for maintenance and monitoring internal corrosion. They should be capable of designing an internal corrosion integrity management program and ensure that the integrity program complies with applicable regulations and industry standards

Application Procedure

An application must be submitted prior to taking the examination only option to allow time for NACE to verify work experience requirements. If seeking certification through the parallel path option, an application may be submitted upon successful completion of the required NACE course, for verification of work experience requirements.

Requirements Necessary to Achieve Certification

Option 1

  • Certification - Senior Internal Corrosion Technologist
and
  • Exam - Internal Corrosion Specialist
and
  • Application - Internal Corrosion Specialist

Option 2

  • Work Experience Document - 8 years in Internal Corrosion
and one of the following:
  • Req - Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Microbiology, Chemical Eng., Metallurgical Eng. or Biology
  • Req - Engineer-in-Training Registration or Equivalent
  • Req - Professional Engineer's License
and
  • Exam - Internal Corrosion Specialist
and
  • Application - Internal Corrosion Specialist
ReCertification Requirements
All NACE Certifications must be renewed every three (3) years.
