Cathodic Protection

Cathodic Protection Certification

Cathodic Protection Program

A critical component of corrosion mitigation, cathodic protection is an electrochemical process to control the corrosion of a metal surface by transferring the corrosion from the protected structure to a more easily corroded metal.

The NACE Institute Cathodic Protection (CP) Certification is the most specified and is recognized world-wide as a validation of cathodic protection theory, practical knowledge, and expertise.

NACE Institute CP Certifications are geared towards field personnel, engineers, project managers, and technical salesmen. Knowledge needed for certification include testing, evaluating, and designing of galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection systems. These skills lay the foundation for successful cathodic protection work in the field, which protects companies, public assets, and the environment.

CP1 - Cathodic Protection Tester

Designed for individuals responsible for observing, recording, or measuring the effectiveness of cathodic protection systems. It addresses field personnel functions and serves as an introduction to the cathodic protection profession.

Certification Requirements

CP2 - Cathodic Protection Technician

Designed to acknowledge intermediate-level knowledge of corrosion theory and cathodic protection concepts. This certification includes differing types of CP systems and advanced field measurement techniques.

Certification Requirements

CP2 - Cathodic Protection Technician – Maritime

Designed to address shipboard cathodic protection specifically with theoretical knowledge and practical testing techniques to determine the effectiveness of galvanic and impressed current CP systems.

Certification Requirements

CP3 - Cathodic Protection Technologist

Indicates knowledge of theoretical concepts and practical application of cathodic protection with a strong focus on interpretation of cathodic protection data and troubleshooting.

Certification Requirements

CP4 - Cathodic Protection Specialist

Indicates knowledge of the principles and procedures used in the CP design of a variety of structures including both galvanic and impressed current systems.
