MR0175 Certified User Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) Certification


Certification Description:

Individual certification available for persons with a working knowledge of the MR0175, which also includes the following:

  • Have a basic technical understanding of corrosion mechanisms caused by sour corrosion, corrosion of metals, and galvanic corrosion.
  • Have the work experience necessary to understand the implications of various environmental conditions on materials selection.
  • Have a technical understanding of Standard NACE-ANSI MR0175/ISO 15156, “Petroleum and natural gas industries-Materials for use in H2S-containing environments in oil and gas production,” its published interpretations, circulars, etc., and demonstrated competency in its application.
  • Have advanced knowledge and understanding of the basis for “shall” requirements in the standard.
  • Have the knowledge and work experience needed to lead discussion of testing, evaluations, and judgments of materials that may be allowed but are not listed in the standard.

Work Experience
Two (2) years relevant experience (documented) and a degree in one of the following: metallurgy, material science, chemical engineer, applied chemistry, mechanical engineer or corrosion


Five (5) years relevant experience with 2 years in responsible charge (documented)

Application Submission

Certification candidates must apply for this certification by submitting an on-line application which is subject to approval.

Certification candidates have four (4) years to complete all requirements, including a successful completion of the exam, and an approved application with the required work experience and education requirements.

Upon successful completion of requirements, the candidate will be awarded a MR0175 Certified User Corrosion Resistant Alloy (CRA) Certification.

Certification renewal requirements

  • An approved Recertification application is required every 3 years
  • 1.5 year's work experience
