The Corrosion Technologist exam is designed to ensure that the candidate has a good understanding of the theory of corrosion and corrosion prevention, has a working knowledge of all types of corrosion and means of prevention, as well as, knowledge and experience within this particular field of specialization or activity.

Primary certification path

  1. Work experience and education requirements

    4 years of verifiable corrosion-related work experience

  2. Certification and application requirements

    Approved Corrosion Technologist Application

  3. Core course and exam requirements

    Corrosion Technician Certification

    - OR -

    Basic Corrosion Course and Exam

    NACE Basic Corrosion e-Course and Exam

    - AND the following:

    One Certification from Menu A below

    One Course from Menu B below

Menu A:

  • CP Tester Certification
  • CP Technician Certification
  • CP Technologist Certification
  • CP Specialist Certification

Menu B:

  • PCS 1 Basic Principles Course
  • PCS 2 Basic Principles Course
  • CIP Level 1 Course

 

Certification candidates have four (4) years to complete all requirements, including a successful completion of the exam, and an approved application with the required work experience and education requirements.

Renewal requirements

An approved recertification application is required every 3 years. The work experience requirement for renewals for all certifications is one and half (1.5) years for the most recent three (3) year period. Additionally, some certifications have other requirements related to responsibility in charge. 

As you prepare for renewal, you can use the Work Experience/Professional Development Log to keep track of your work experience and Professional Development Hours (PDH’s). Work experience and PDH’s will be submitted in your renewal application. See the certification renewal guide for PDH's requirements.

Certification holders are required to pay a non-refundable processing fee for renewal.
NOTE: NACE reserves the right to return any incomplete applications or those that do not meet the requirements. All application fees are non-refundable. To avoid processing delays or forfeiture of fees, please ensure that the application is complete, meets all the requirements and payment has been received.
