Cathodic Protection Technician

The Cathodic Protection Technician certification indicates intermediate-level knowledge of corrosion theory and CP concepts, types of CP systems, and advanced field measurement techniques.

This certification is geared toward persons with a heavy engineering/scientific background and some working knowledge of cathodic protection, or who have extensive years of field experience with some technical background.

Requirements for Cathodic Protection Technician Certification

Option 1
Prerequisite
• Successful completion of all CP Tester requirements (including certification) or equivalent training
Work Experience
• 3 years verifiable work experience in Cathodic Protection
Recommended Course
• It is strongly recommended that candidates complete the following course:
NACE CP 2-Cathodic Protection Technician Course
Core Exam Requirement 1
• Certification Exam - CP Technician Practical Exam
Note: This exam is delivered as part of the NACE CP2 - Cathodic Protection Technician Course
Core Exam Requirement 2
• Certification Exam - CP Technician Written Exam NACE-CP2-001

• Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Sciences or Engineering
• Successful completion of all CP Tester requirements (including certification) or equivalent training

To begin the certification process:

Application Submission

  • Certification candidates must apply for this certification by submitting an on-line application which is subject to approval.
  • Certification candidates have four (4) years to complete all requirements, including a successful completion of the exam, and an approved application with the required work experience and education requirements.

Upon successful completion of requirements, the candidate will be awarded a NACE CP Technician Certification.

Certification renewal requirements

  • An approved Recertification application is required every 3 years
  • 24 Professional Development Hours (8 hours per year)
  • 1.5 year’s work experience
  • Renewal Fee
    • Members - $240 USD
    • Non-Members - $450 USD
