Computer-based Testing

NII is raising the standards of certification with computer-based testing.

Computer-based testing (CBT)

One way in which NACE International Institute (NII) is ensuring that the certifications it awards meet and exceed industry expectations, is through leveraging professional development and examination standards. Currently, NII is partnering with Pearson VUE and their network of over 5,000 testing centers in 165 countries to offer computer-based testing (CBT) to its certification candidates around the globe.

Transitioning from paper-based to computer-based testing will be a three-year project. However, CBT will be an additional feature that sets NII certifications apart from others in the corrosion and industrial fields and it will help protect the integrity, honesty, and value of NII credentials.

This change will increase the integrity of the NII Certifications by:

  • Bringing NII current with industry standards for certification exams
  • Instantly providing students with their exam results
  • Increasing the options for testing locations to individuals all over the world
  • Decreasing exam breeches

Benefits to changing NII testing format and CBT

  • Increases testing location options for all students — wherever they reside
  • Instantly provides students with exam results
  • Provides for flexible scheduling; students can now take their certification exam at a time and place that is convenient — at the end of their training week or after they've had time to study
  • Exam results include a "Scoring" feature with a "Bar Report"* that helps students understand how they scored per topic, with areas of strength, and areas in need of improvement
  • Improves exam security, which reduces exam breaches
  • Brings NII testing in line with current industry standards for certification exams

*To access the Bar Report: Sign into your online portal and select "My Certification Portal." Next, select "Schedule Proctored Exams" and then "View Score Reports." Select the "View" button for the specific exam you wish to review.
